Trend Spotter is a data visualization tool designed to give you the power to see what other members of the community are thinking, saying and doing in relation to our content. Using our specially designed interactive interface, you have the ability to explore the community’s activity and compare yourself to a few, or a lot, of other users. What’s more, you can freely change the variables, from views, to comments, to ratings, and even introduce multiple filters, including age, location, and more!

The Trend Spotter tool has been designed to be as simple and fun to use as possible. To get started, simply sign in to your Hot Pink Shorts account and navigate to the Film Festival section, clicking the small graph icon in the top menu bar. You now have access to Trend Spotter!

Along the top of the chart, you’ll see a series of drop down menus that can be used to alter the graph in a variety of ways. Clicking the ‘Advanced Filters’ tab will reveal further drop down menus that allow you to apply additional filters based on community demographics.

It’s just that easy, so start exploring!

Changing the X and Y-axes will allow you to explore the relationships between films and the activity they receive. One video may receive hundreds of views and no comments, while another may have relatively few views and yet be rated an equivalent number of times.

Altering the X and Y variables gives you the power to discover these relationships. Coupled with our advanced filters, you’ll not only have the chance to view these relationships, but explore which demographic of users have made them so.

The advanced filters in Trend Spotter add another layer of discovery and exploration to the data generated by our content. These filters, including age, location, profession, education and more allow you to drill as deep into the information as you’d like.

To use these settings, simply click the ‘Advanced Filters’ tab, revealing further drop down menus to be utilized. In order to compare yourself with the rest of the community, you may only apply filters for which you have already provided the requisite information. For example, in order to utilize the location filter, we’ll need to know your location first!

From there, you’ll be free to utilize the filters in any combination you like.

At the bottom of the Fun w/ Numbers screen, you’ll see a one-month time scale moving from left to right as time goes on. This scale allows you to view the progression of variables (views, ratings, comments) associated with a film over a period of time.

To use this feature, simply click the play button and watch the graph evolve as time progresses. Pressing the play button a second time will stop the movement. Alternatively, you have the ability to drag the cursor to any point on the time scale to view the state of videos at any given point.
