This is so Intriguing!! I would love to see this film and share it with my colleagues...the idea has already sparked fascinating water cooler conversation.
this is an interesting exploration. i often contract when i hear people use this phrase, and i'd be curious to know what others have to say about it and how it can be redefined.
I would not only love to see the film, but be interviewed for it! I disagree that "That's so gay" means "That's strange", and would be interested to hear what others think.
I think the phrase is generally used negatively and would love to see that changed! After all, didn't it used to mean "happy" or "carefree" or "joyful"? Great idea Su Yon.
"That's so gay" I understand to mean kind of kitsch or uncool in it's derogatory form. I think "that's so gay" sounds like "that's ok" - it's ok to be gay. I'd love to see the start of a movement to take back the word!
A very interesting topic for sure... I must say I have both chastised people for using this terminology and I have used it myself... a bit of a paradox...
I disagree that it means "strange" I think it more often means "lame" or something similarly derogative... however I also think queer sounds sort of derogatory and would rather be labelled as gay than queer...
Fascinating really... can't wait to have you make this film so I can see what everyone else has to say...
Language that fosters discriminatory steteotypes often gets used thoughtlessly. That's so not OK. This project will very usefully confront one such cecity.
Great idea to explore the very terminology which is considered so colloquial that it straddles our contemporary boundary between slang and malice. I would like to see what the consensus would be in the gay and/or transgender community.

It is definitely fascinating to learn about which word different individuals prefer to self-identify themselves with.
