I am so gay! And I mean that in the best, quirkiest, funnest, funniest, sense of the word. My sister said, 'You are so gay!' way before I was self-identified as a gay/lesbian woman. It was not said in the best, quirkiest, funnest or funniest sense of the word. Her intention was not to hurt (much) but when she said it to me, with 'that' tone of voice, it was hurtful. Perhaps more hurtful than intended since I was right in the throes of figuring out who I was and who I loved and would I 'come out' and did I need to 'come out' and would I lose family, friends, work because 'I was so gay'? It was during a time in Alberta when Ralph Klien invoked the 'Notwithstanding Clause' when gay & lesbian rights were going to be protected in Canada - and 'I was so gay'.
It's a loaded statement and certainly has power. I can't wait to see the movie!
